  • Mind My Brains, Darling! (poster by Jeremy Hodges)

Set in Britain in 1979, Mind My Brains, Darling! follows the ups and downs of family life with the Worthingtons – a typical family with a mum, dad, two kids and a grandfather. Typical that is, for a peri-apocalyptic society ravaged by war and zombies for the past 4 years. Oh, and the dad is a Zombie.

Mind My Brains Darling Teaser 1

Inspector Koenig is his usual charming self in Teaser One

Those with long memories might recall those days before we launched our Indiegogo campaign. We needed to make some teasers that would excite people about the possibilities of BodyLine and ‘Mind My Brains, Darling!’ but we were constrained by two things. One, the scripts weren’t completed and two, we didn’t any sets built. There was no possibility of us using actual footage so we had to write and shoot two teasers that could be filmed in locations we already had access to.

Kids in peril is always a winner. Double points if they are YOUR kids!

We ended up with Teaser One filmed at the police station (our garage before the set was built), and Teaser Two filmed in the Worthington’s garden (our back yard). Before we filmed Teaser One we rehearsed it in the kitchen, getting shots right and making sure the reveal would work ok. We will not be releasing that footage. I think it was tragically chopped up, burned to crisp and then scattered to the four winds :)

How did we do? I think they stand up pretty well, and I’d be interested to hear what you think. We’ve uploaded them to our YouTube channel and you can view them here:

We have some VERY exciting news to share soon. So stay tuned!

New picture from the set of Mind My Brains, Darling!

This time tomorrow we’ll know the final score!

The last 60 days have been amazing. No doubt about that.

YOU have been amazing! The support, encouragement and funding help we have received has been phenomenal. Because of the funding the set is built, the props are 90% purchased and we’ve updated our editing machine. This means we’re entering the final stages of pre-production and the shooting schedule is shaping up. The scripts are being polished and everything is in place. Seriously – we are completely stoked about how things are progressing and every day brings new revelations and awesomeness.

What a difference a pic makes…

We’re not going to comment on the picture too much, but it does have a few hints about upcoming episodes in it if you look closely. And the main cast is all there – from left to right it is: The Colonel, Emma, Petunia, Anna, Jeremy. You can find out more about each of them on the ‘Main Characters’ tab. What do you think of the set? Is it 1970′s enough for you? :)

Still accepting donations?

Yes, the campaign is still open for the simple reason that any money we get over our target goes straight into production. While we’ve pared everything down to the barest of bare minimums, stuff costs money. We set up a 60 day campaign not knowing what was going to happen and it finishes at 12 midnight on Friday. If you still want to donate then please do – it will go towards a new microphone.

Questions? Comments? Ideas?

Over to you! We’ve been trying to keep you updated here and on higletfilms.com, Twitter and Facebook. Is it working for you? Do you have any questions about what we’re doing, the webseries or anything else? We’d love to hear from you so please contact us either here or via any of the above sites.

More news soon!

One week later – thank yous and reflections

Mind My Brains, Darling! on indiegogo

So then. That happened.

Last Monday we launched our funding drive on Indiegogo for “Mind My Brains, Darling!”, our new webseries. We hoped in the first week that a few people would look at the page, watch the videos, spread the link and then think about donating some cash to help us get production under way.

Within hours we had had our first funder and people were spreading the words and links through Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed. We were mentioned on TubeFilter, IndieIntertube and Webseries Today and had emails from people from all over the globe. When I tweeted and asked if people would like our Facebook page so we could get a custom URL we reached  the needed 25 within a few hours. You can now find us at http://www.facebook.com/HigletFilms.

Overwhelming

From the very bottom of our hearts we want to thank all of you who have helped to spread the news, contributed hard-earned money and responded with so much enthusiasm. We’ve been blown away by your kindness and interest. In a week we have raised nearly 70 % of our total. We can now get to work constructing the sets and mapping out production. There is still a long way to go but your support helps immeasurably. It’s very exciting!

Next Steps

Next week we will be filming the exclusive extra for people who have funded $10 or more, which will feature a new character. More on that soon. We think you’ll like it :)
