Set in Britain in 1979, Mind My Brains, Darling! follows the ups and downs of family life with the Worthingtons – a typical family with a mum, dad, two kids and a grandfather. Typical that is, for a peri-apocalyptic society ravaged by war and zombies for the past 4 years. Oh, and the dad is a Zombie.

Characters

Jeremy and Petunia from Mind My Brains Darling

Jeremy and Petunia Worthington

Jeremy Worthington
He has been an Affected for 3 years. He used to be a geography teacher but is now unable to hold down a steady job. Married to Petunia for 11 years.

Petunia Worthington
Housewife and part time librarian. Firmly believes in Jeremy’s good heart. Hopes that ‘the cure’ will restore Jeremy to full health and all will be well. Tries to maintain normal family life for everyone.

The Colonel with Emma and Anna from Mind My Brains Darling

The Colonel with Emma and Anna

Emma Worthington
14 yrs old. Adopted by Jeremy and Petunia as a five year old. Can just about remember what the world was like before the outbreak. A skilled marksman (holds a ‘Silver Eagle’ award) and very clever. Wants to be an Army immunologist and find ‘the cure’.

Anna Worthington
Nearly 7. Has no memory of the world before the outbreak or her father as a non-Affected. Always cheerful and loves to play pretend with her toys.

Colonel Brathwaite – Petunia’s father
Bumbling retired army Colonel with a walking cane and two false legs – though the story of how he lost his legs in the war changes constantly. Is horribly prejudiced against The Affected. He indulges in war stories about the apocalypse, usually ending with ‘….terrible shame. Awful tragedy. Such a waste. Damn funny though.’ Dotes on Petunia and the girls.

Z Force private and Inspector Koenig from Mind My Brains Darling

Z Force private and Inspector Koenig

Inspector Koenig, Z-Force
Gruff, no-nonsense South African Policeman. Has no time for anyone or anything that stops him ‘taking an ‘Untermuncher scum’ to the hospital’ when they have transgressed the laws. Thinks it’s just a matter of time before the medication wears off all Affecteds and they rampage. Was in Britain on holiday when the borders closed. Not married. No children. Hates pasta.

Private Olive Peabody

Private Olive Peabody, Z Force

Private Olive Peabody
Surly, self-centered member of  ‘Families and Affected Local Liaison Unit Services’ of Z Force. Voted most likely to drink all the tea, eat all the biscuits and then shoot you in the face. Graduated 21st out of 20 in her squadron. Detests bug eyed little dogs called Mr Woofikins. Probably has bad feet.

Dr Feyrer (pronounced Hfuhruhurr)

Dr Feyrer (pronounced Hfuhruhurr)

Doctor Feyrer

Dr Feyrer was top of her class all the way through medical school and beyond, and brooks no disagreement on any scientific subject. Some say she is almost fanatical in her quest for knowledge about the ‘Affected’, and that her past holds a terrible secret.

Fr Aloysius Rambo

Fr Aloysius Rambo (pronounced Ram-bo)

Father Aloysius Rambo

Father Aloysius is a simple man of the cloth who likes nothing better than meditating on the mysteries of the Good Book while listening to the footie results. Gives good Mass.

Sgt Fido

Sgt Fido

Sergeant Fido

Highly qualified with a perfect service record, Sgt Fido has moved up the ranks of Z Force due to incomparable nose for trouble. Has single-handedly subdued 3 separate Affected insurgencies. Makes a great cup of tea.
